Expanding Business in the World through Original Technology

Yamamoto Kogaku
SWANS Brand Goggles

Since its foundation in 1911, YAMAMOTO KOGAKU CO., LTD. has provided high-function products, capturing large sectors of markets and gaining wide acceptance in its target segments. Under its theme of “Human Health, Safety and Environment,” Yamamoto Kogaku has catered to the market segments of industry, daily life, and sports and leisure, accumulating and developing technologies for lenses and other products.

Yamamoto Kogaku’s name came into the limelight with the debut of its brand name Swans in 1971 as the first anti-fog ski goggles. Praised by top racers in the Sapporo Olympic Games the following year, they have been popular in many races and competitions since. Yamamoto Kogaku later applied their anti-fog technology to swim goggles and anti-dust glasses, eventually leading to the world’s first anti-fog swimming goggles with power lenses.

They also developed lenses utilizing film insertion technology, produced by integrating polarized film and polycarbonate resin in the molding process, another world’s first innovation by Yamamoto Kogaku. These lenses cut harmful rays such as ultraviolet and bright yellow rays, and have been used in various sports from fishing, yachting, golf and skating to baseball, track and field and marathon running. The high added value of these products draws attention from people around the world.

In recent years, Yamamoto Kogaku has used its light control technology to develop anti-laser filters that are indispensable for protecting eyes from laser beams, and their filter selection has become one of the best in the world. They are currently pursuing technologies in the opto-electronics field, such as designing a system for plastic optical filters and producing optical sensor filters. Yamamoto Kogaku handles other product lines as well including powered respirators such as those required in biochemical and semiconductor applications where a super clean environment is required, and various anti-dust and gas masks to protect against nuclear contaminants and dioxins. These safety products are recognized today around the world under the brand name Yamamoto.
