Yamabun Electronics Co., Ltd. perfected its first plastic sheet-use online thickness measuring system in 1989. Since that time, the company has developed and commercialized a host of other models including the infrared type, X-ray type, capacitance type, etc., and has built up an actual record of delivering more than 400 thickness measuring systems to customers in a number if industrial fields. In addition, the company recently perfected an interference type thickness meter that it is capable of measuring the thickness of each respective layer of a multi-layered sheet. And in 2002, it completed the development of a T die lips controller that automatically controls thickness and is on record as achieving thickness deviation control to within ±1%.
In particular, Yamabun’s non-contact laser online thickness measuring systems have become leading products in the food container-use sheet field. In this laser-type system, a series of sensors is available to match the type of object being measured. Operation is easy and, unlike with b radiation-type thickness measurement devices, requires no license or authorization, which has won the laser system a warm welcome from many users.
With regard to data processing, Yamabun completed a centralized control system connected to a LAN in 1998, which is currently operating. Data tabulation software, automatic daily report output software and data communication software can all be connected to this system, which also features a site-ready thickness monitor screen that contributes to its high level of user trust. The system is available in a choice of the online type, installed in film sheet production lines, and the offline desktop type, designed for inspection and quality control, while the type of sensor can be selected according to the object of measurement. While in the case of maintenance in a distant location, remote monitoring of the thickness measuring system can be carried out via a mobile phone.
Recently Yamabun has been positively developing its business in a number of new directions. For example, in line with the recent increase in the use of high function film in the electronics and optical fields the company commercialized a low-energy soft X-ray type thickness measurement system that is optimized for such films, and exhibited it at K2004 in Düsseldorf, etc.
In the future, Yamabun will strive to attract new customers in order to realize its dream of becoming the top player in the measurement field in both nominal and real terms by developing thickness measurement and thickness control systems that are well balanced in terms of both functionality and cost.
