Takenaka Seisakusho Co., Ltd. has spent the seven decades since its establishment in the unending pursuit of improved methods for manufacturing special steel high-precision screws. Based on the impressive store of technology it has accumulated over this time and armed with a slew of original products and a continuing commitment to differentiated product development, this innovative maker is setting it sights on becoming an ever more unique and indispensable company in the century ahead.

The technological developments that Takenaka is currently emphasizing have resulted in the commercialization of 12 new products so far and led to the company obtaining six patents with three more patent applications pending.

In particular, the fluorocarbon polymer coating product TAKECOAT-1000 and the nuclear power plant-use special steel high-precision screws that the company developed in-house each boast shares of more than 90% in their respective Japanese markets.

TAKECOAT-1000, a fluorocarbon polymer coating that provides amazingly good resistance to rust and corrosion, was developed through a joint industry-academia research project by a team of full time technical staff using university laboratory facilities. In 1990, this product received an inspection certificate from the Ministry of Construction (presently the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) and the Public Works Research Center certifying it as a “Civil Engineering-use Material Technology”. In practical use too, TAKECOAT-1000 has established its status as a product that delivers an excellent rust and corrosion resistance performance.

Takenaka’s fluorocarbon polymer-coated bolts, nuts and parts are ideal for use under severe conditions for applications where rust and corrosion resistance need to be maintained for long periods, such as for bridges, subterranean pipes, marine structures, etc. For this reason, these products are employed in large quantities in such major civil engineering structures as the Tokyo Bay Tunnel on the Trans-Tokyo Bay Highway (also known as the Tokyo Bay Aqualine), and all the suspension bridges on all three routes linking the Japanese islands of Honshu and Shikoku.

Takenaka was able to give TAKECOAT-1000 such a highly reliable performance for a number of reasons. These include the company’s successes in obtaining ISO9100 and ISO2000 certification as well as the advanced quality-assurance technology that has allowed it to remain a monopoly supplier of screws for use in nuclear power plants for many years. In recent years, Takenaka has been carrying out a wide range of surface processes for many kinds of parts, and has been hard at work tackling the development of next-generation surface processing technology.
