Hairpins come in a wide variety and can generally be divided into two types: the closed type such as bobby pins, and the open type such as U-pins. When founded in 1871, GORIKI KOGYO CO., LTD. manufactured and distributed both styles to professional hairdressers, but only in the traditional Japanese styles. After World War II ended, it came to the company’s attention that people in Western countries used a style of hairpin that differed significantly from the Japanese style. Since they had used manufacturing equipment during the war to produce cotter pins that resembled Western hairpins, they decided to modify their facilities to start production. This was how Goriki Kogyo became a major player in the hairpin industry.
This innovative equipment modification created the first automated machine for fabricating hairpins in Japan. Since that time, Goriki Kogyo has continuously worked to make their machinery more sophisticated so their manufacturing procedure does not rely so heavily on workers’ skills. They have received patents for their basic technologies developed in their earlier days, resulting in a solid position in the industry.
To ensure their products remain current, the company actively promotes communication with hairdressers, especially younger ones, to collect information about the latest trends in hair fashions.
Differences such as climate and culture mean that hairstyles vary throughout the world. Goriki Kogyo therefore collects a variety of hairpins from abroad and develops a production system to meet every customer need. Using these strategies, Goriki Kogyo works to identify trends in hairstyles earlier than anyone else and offer the best hairpins possible to its customers.
