80% of the world’s market share in VCR cylinders

ASAHI KOSEI CO., LTD. was launched as an independent company under the name Asahi Kinzoku in 1946, “Kinzoku” meaning “metals” in Japanese, and started off with the manufacture of crank rods for domestic sewing machines. Reorganizing in 1952, Asahi Kinzoku began manufacturing aluminum die cast parts as well.

In 1986, it settled on the current name Asahi Kosei, “Kosei” meaning “precision manufacturing” in Japanese. Soon after, Asahi Kosei innovated a new vacuum and squeeze die cast technology to produce VCR cylinders with nonporous die cast parts instead of conventional hot forging.
Because of the high quality and precision his provided, sales of their nonporous cylinders skyrocketed, becoming Asahi Kosei’s mainstay product and capturing 80% of the world’s market share overnight. In 1994, Asahi Kosei received the prize for corporate excellence from the city of Higashi Osaka.

That same year, they established Asahi Kosei Malaysia to accommodate the shift overseas by VCR manufacturers.
With more than 1200 employees today, the Malaysia plant is a production center for parts destined for overseas markets.
Currently, the products sold fall in four categories, each making up 25% of overall sales: VCR parts, automobile parts, computer peripheral parts and general industrial parts.

Since its founding, Asahi Kosei Malaysia has developed a high level of technical expertise through its in-house processes of design, mold production, precision processing, part manufacturing and inspection, providing top corporate customers with concrete solutions.
While continuing high-quality work in aluminum die casting as their core technology, they are focusing on the development of new technologies that meet the recent demand for lighter automobiles.
Using their expertise in die production, they developed the first vacuum-based squeeze pressurization technology in the world, enabling the mass production of aluminum cast parts for automobiles with high precision specifications.

Asahi Kosei places a high value on quality assurance and has received three ISO certifications. The Malaysia plant acquired ISO 9001 certification in 1998 and ISO 14001 in 2004, and the head office received ISO 9001 certification in the year 2000.
